Tetons vs Miles CC Women’s Basketball Pre-Game Primer

The Williston State Tetons are back in the friendly confines of the well tonight to take on the Miles Community College Pioneers.

Starting the evening off will be the Women's game, which tips off at 5:30 pm CST. The Tetons are looking to make it 2-0 against Miles following early season win in New Town during the pre-season Mon-Dak conference tournament.

In that game, Williston State took a 16 point lead heading into half time, and were able to hold on to win by the final of 66-59.

Miles comes into the game fresh off a road win on the road in Bottineau. The 6-14 Pioneers (3-8 Mon-Dak) enter the tonight with a one game lead over the United Tribes for 6nd place.

The Pioneers are averaging 61.0 points per game while hitting 38.3% of their shots from the field, and 26.7% from beyond the arc.

Jessica Tomkins leads the way in scoring, pouring in 12.0 points per game, with India Blyth (11.2 ppg), also contributing to the royals offensive output.

Williston State comes into the game 11-6 (8-3 Mon-Dak) overall on the season, and are riding a six game win streak, and 9-1 in their last 10. The team is averaging 65.4 points per game, while shooting 42.1% overall and 29.6% from deep.

Tetons are led in scoring by Emily Kurkowsky with 16.2 points per game, and just outside of the the double digit club is fellow sophomore guard Hayley Macdonald (9.9 ppg).

Three things to watch for:

1. Trap Game Mindset: Williston State has been riding high the past month of play, but can't afford to overlook any opponents, especially a conference opponent having a down year. The Tetons have been able to lock in completely the last two games against tough competition, and need to do the same for the next four quarters at home.

2. Taking What The Games Gives You: Macdonald and De Le Fuente have had low scoring games the last two games, but have made up for it on other portions of play. Macdonald has played lock down smart defense to shut down primary scoring options, as well as take some momentum changing charges. De Le Fuente has been a phenomenal passer from the top of the perimeter, often being a sure fire relief valve if on ball pressure is suffocating.

3. Big Lead: With the chase for the regular season conference title within arms reach, the Tetons have not had a significant opportunity to reach down their bench to get a significant amount of run. Getting a commanding lead would allow them to get some important game experience for some of the reserves and also rest the starters as business picks up for the final stretch toward post season play.
